Subject: DGS TFS - branches nominating and supporting Simon
Hello
Just a quick note to ask what your plans are in terms of publicity for the election.
As you may know, branches are entitled to, on request from the SDGS, receive a computer disc or labels to home mail their members election material. Could you I ask you to consider doing this in order to maximise turnout - and support for me as your nominee - in the election?
Additionally/alternatively, if you could let me know ifthere is anything that you would want from me in terms of copy, photos, leaflets or A4/A5 sized posters, I will do my best to meet your requests asap.
When we get closer to the election itself, I wil be distributing material and asking/hoping for your assistance in distributing it to members and workplaces.
Also, if there is anything additional you think I should be doing, please do not hesitate to speak up - I do not have a monopoly on wisdom and beleive that by drawing ideas from the widest range of sources, we maximise our chances of success.
Finally, I'm never quite sure how many of these emails are getting through, so if you could acknowledge receipt I would be grateful.
Many thanks and best wishes
Simon

Subject: DGS TFS - branches nominating and supporting Simon
Dear Colleagues
Thank you for taking the decision to nominate me for the position of DGS TFS. Despite some pressure not to do so, I have accepted these nominations and so my name will be on the ballot paper in April.
I have to tell you that despite the swaggering and sniping, I firmly believe that we can win. I believe this simply because what members are telling me - as they are telling you - is that they want a DGS TFS who is free from any obligation other than to the membership as a whole, and who can represent their views with determination and dignity. The key issue in my view will be to make sure as many members as possible see and believe that this is achievable.
I want to run an inclusive campaign and obviously nominating/supporting branches are a crucial part of that. I would very much value your ideas and thoughts on what should be done and how. I have a number of ideas of my own and will write round again with some of these early next week.
In the meantime, I thought you would want to be aware of the facilities that are open to candidates and branches - many of you may already be aware of this.
1 Candidates can ask for a set of address labels/email addresses of all branches in order to write to them for support
2 Branches can, on request from the SDGS, receive a computer disc or labels to home mail their members election material
3 Candidates can have a web-page on the CWU site
4 Candidates can have expenditure involved in traveling to meetings convened by branches/regions reimbursed.
I would be very grateful if you could act on point 2 (if necessary) so things can start to be put in place for a potential mailshot by either electronic or postal means.
Finally, what do you think of convening a campaign conference call? Worthwhile or a non-starter? Let me know what you think.
Many thanks again for your support. Have a great week-end.
Kind regards
Simon
